FAQS
When do you rehearse?
For term one, term two, and the month of June, we rehearse on Sundays. In July and August, rehearsals move to Thursday evenings to give everyone weekends off in the summer months.
How are your terms split up?
The Rhythm Ensemble is split into 3 terms:
Term one: September to November
Term two: December to February
Term three: June to August
Do I need to commit to the whole year?
Company members do not need to commit to the full year in order to participate in the program, but it is strongly recommended in order to maintain consistency in training. Dancers must commit to at least one full term and drop-ins will not be accepted.
Do all divisions perform?
The Junior Ensemble and Apprentice division are training only divisions and do no perform. The Pre-Professional division will perform in multiple shows throughout the year, though performances are not mandatory. Occasionally Apprentice dancers may be invited to perform the with Pre-Professional division.
When are auditions?
Auditions take place once a year in the last week of August for all three terms of the upcoming season.
Do you ever hold auditions mid-season?
Additional auditions are only held mid-season if all company positions are not filled, or a company position becomes available. This generally does not happen, so if you’re interested in auditioning make sure you’re available for our August auditions!
What do I do if I can’t make it to the audition date?
Video submissions can be made in lieu of in-person auditions but in-person auditions are strongly preferred and recommended, especially if you’ve never worked with Miss Julie or The Rhythm Ensemble before. Video submissions are due by the audition date. Please email The Rhythm Ensemble for video submission information.
How do I know which level to audition for?
Junior Ensemble: Intermediate level dancers with a minimum age of 10. Current company ranges in ages 10-24 with an average age of 13. This division generally includes dancers at a studio intermediate or senior level.
Apprentice Division: Advanced level dancers with a minimum age of 12. Current company ranges in ages 12-21 with an average age of 15. This division generally includes dancers at a studio senior level, as well as dancers who have graduated from their respective studios.
Pre-Professional Division: Pre-Professional level dancers with a minimum age of 14. Current company ranges in ages 14-30 with an average age of 18. This division generally includes dancers at a studio senior/ advanced level, as well as dancers who have graduated from their respective studios. Most dancers in the Pre-Professional division have extensive knowledge of the professional tap dance community and have participated in other pre-professional training programs.
Do I need to prepare anything for my audition? What should I expect at the audition?
You do not need to prepare anything for the audition. Auditions are run like a regular class. Dancers can expect to learn a short combination to perform for our panel, as well as some improvisation. If it’s your first time improvising, don’t worry, we’ll help you through it!
